This 64mm titanium flat burr coffee burr has the characteristics of high strength and good corrosion resistance. Compared with some other materials' burrs, the titanium alloy burr is more durable, not easy to rust and wear, and can maintain the grinding performance for a longer time.

  1. Blank and foundation forming: titanium alloy round bar blank is selected, after annealing and softening, a flat disc matrix with a diameter of 64 mm is roughly turned by a high-rigidity numerical control lathe, and the finishing allowance is reserved, and at the same time, it is fixed by a special fixture to avoid clamping deformation.
  2. Precision cutting of tooth pattern: Five-axis CNC machining center, equipped with TiAlN coated cemented carbide cutter, milling radial or arc tooth pattern at low cutting speed and high feed rate, and controlling tooth pitch accuracy by rough milling and fine milling to meet the demand of coffee grinding.
  3. Post-treatment strengthening performance: cooling with 70-100 bar high-pressure emulsified coolant to avoid high processing temperature. After that, the surface is nitrided, and PVD coating can be made to improve the wear resistance, and then the burr is removed by numerical control polishing.
  4. Precision detection and calibration: use a three-coordinate measuring instrument to detect parameters such as diameter and flatness, and a tooth profile measuring instrument to verify the tooth profile accuracy, so as to ensure that the meshing gap between the dynamic and static grinding cores reaches the standard and ensure the grinding uniformity.

Titanium alloy has the advantages of high strength (close to steel), low density (lightweight), rust resistance, and excellent wear resistance. Some stainless steel burrs will be "titanium-plated". CNC machining of titanium alloy burrs can make the tooth pattern more refined (such as thinner burrs ), force is evenly distributed during cutting, and the particle uniformity is close to that of ceramics, but it is more impact-resistant than ceramics (not easy to crack). Titanium alloy has better heat dissipation than ceramics and stainless steel, generates less heat during grinding, and can retain the aroma of coffee beans to the greatest extent (especially suitable for the floral and fruity aroma of lightly roasted beans). However, the cost is high (the price is 3-5 times that of stainless steel), and it is only used in high-end grinders. It is suitable for commercial high-end grinders and home scenes with extremely high requirements for flavor and durability (such as professional coffee studios).

Material selection

 

 

Materials that can be used to make coffee machine burrs:

1.Standard burr: Usually oil-hardened steel burr, the most common type of burr, mostly gray in appearance. This burr has a hardened layer and a soft "inner core". When the hardened layer wears out, the burr will wear faster. A 64mm standard steel burr can grind about 650-750 pounds of coffee beans before it needs to be replaced.
2."Enhanced" burr: The hardened layer is strengthened through a high-frequency quenching process, which increases the service life of the standard burr and can be identified by the increased gloss and more silver on the burr. The 64mm "enhanced" burr can grind about 1000-1100 pounds of coffee beans before it needs to be replaced.
3.Chrome-molybdenum steel burr: Made of chrome-molybdenum alloy steel, it is slightly more expensive and has the characteristics of high strength, high hardness, wear resistance, and high temperature resistance. A 64mm chrome-molybdenum steel burr can grind about 1500-1600 pounds of coffee beans before it needs to be replaced.
4.D2 tool steel burr: This is an expensive type of burr that is hard and wear-resistant, but it needs to be heated to very high temperatures during processing, and manufacturers need special equipment to produce this type of burr. A 64 mm D2 tool steel burr can grind 2400-2500 pounds of coffee beans before it needs to be replaced.
5.TiN-coated D2 tool steel burr: Titanium nitride coating is applied to the surface of the D2 tool steel burr. Titanium nitride has a low coefficient of friction, super hardness and wear resistance, and provides additional protection for the D2 tool steel burr. It has a golden appearance. A 64 mm TiN-coated D2 tool steel burr can grind 3000-3100 pounds of coffee beans before it needs to be replaced.
6.Ceramic burr: The service life is similar to that of the TiN-coated D2 tool steel burr, and it can grind 3000-3100 pounds of coffee beans. The advantage of ceramic burrs is that they can dissipate heat fairly quickly and are more resistant to high temperatures than metals. However, ceramic burrs have poor toughness and are prone to cracking or breaking after long-term use.
