CAD Model Preparation

Workpiece Setup

Copper material is securely clamped onto the CNC machine bed, ensuring alignment within 0.02 mm.

Processes include milling, turning, and drilling, conducted under controlled cooling to prevent overheating.

 

In-Process Inspection

Processing characteristics of copper and copper alloys

High ductility and low hardness

Copper alloys (such as brass H62 and bronze QSn6.5-0.1) have slightly higher hardness than pure copper (H62 Brinell hardness is approximately 60-80 HB), lower ductility, and relatively better processing performance. They are commonly used materials for CNC machining.

High thermal conductivity

The thermal conductivity of copper is much higher than that of steel and aluminum. During processing, the cutting heat will be quickly transferred to the workpiece, tool and fixture, which may cause dimensional deviation of the workpiece due to thermal deformation (especially thin-walled and slender parts), and the tool edge temperature will be too high, accelerating wear (for example, high-speed steel tools are easy to soften).

Special chip shape

When processing pure copper, the chips are mostly in the form of "continuous strips". If the chips are not removed smoothly, they are likely to wrap around the tool or workpiece and scratch the processed surface. Copper alloy chips are relatively easy to break (for example, brass is mostly granular or short strips), so chip removal is less difficult.
