The following describes several common steel grades and properties.
4140 steel
Composition: Low alloy steel with low chromium, molybdenum and manganese content
Performance: good machinability and wear resistance; It is not easy to weld and may require pre and post heat treatment
Application: Common in couplings, spindles, bolts, nuts, auto parts, etc
4130 steel
Composition: Higher content of alloying elements than ordinary steel, composed of iron, carbon, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, phosphorus, silicon and sulfur
Performance: Good toughness, workability and thermal compatibility; Easy to heat treat, but less easy to weld
Application: Because it can withstand high pressure, it is often used for various construction purposes; It is also used for aircraft engine installation, the same effect 4130 is cheaper, because manufacturers prefer 4130 steel rather than aircraft grade steel
1018 steel
Composition: Mild steel, composed of iron, carbon, manganese, phosphorus and sulfur
Performance: machinable; Weldable and the default option for carburized CNC steel parts (note that welding is required after carburizing)
Not suitable for finishing, the price is relatively expensive; It is magnetic and can be heat treated
Application: tie rod, spindle, shaft and many other mold parts
1045 steel
Composition: Medium carbon steel, composed of iron, carbon, silicon, manganese and sulfur or phosphorus (one of the most common steel grades for CNC steel parts)
Performance: strong, strong toughness, machinable, weldable. Although the strength is high, it is not recommended for very strong products because its tensile strength and hardenability are at best moderate

1215 steel
Composition: Containing iron, carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur
Performance: Easy to process due to high sulfur content; Small chips are formed during processing, allowing for higher processing rates. Weldability is not strong; The carbon content is relatively low and it is not as strong as other cold-drawn steels.
Application: commonly known as thread machine blank, a large number of automatic screw machine processing; In industry, it is suitable for automation projects requiring heavy machining, including studs, pins, screws, couplings and hose fittings
